About This Place

Nestled in a tucked-away alley at 210 E Trade St in Charlotte, RedEye Diner invites you into a welcoming haven of classic American comfort food where every dish feels like a warm, satisfying hug. This beloved diner expertly balances the nostalgia of a family-friendly atmosphere with the vibrant energy of a bustling brunch spot. Known for its hearty portions and reasonably priced menu, RedEye Diner shines as a go-to destination for breakfast, brunch, and beyond.

The cuisine here is a celebration of robust, soul-satisfying flavors that pay homage to Southern and Americana staples. Signature dishes like the Chicken and Waffles showcase the perfect marriage of sweet and savory, delivering crisp fried chicken atop a golden waffle that offers a delightful textural contrast with each bite. Meanwhile, the Shrimp & Grits provides a decadent, creamy embrace of fresh seafood and perfectly seasoned grits that echo Southern culinary traditions.

For those craving breakfast classics elevated with care, the Redeye Special with French Toast and the Red Eye Pancake Special deliver fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth buttermilk pancakes or rich, golden French toast, each plate accompanied by eggs cooked any style and your choice of breakfast sides. Don't miss out on their famously creamy cheese grits or a generous helping of perfectly crisp hash browns, which several patrons insist should be ordered extra crispy to achieve that irresistible crunch. Honey butter is the perfect sweet companion for the waffles or French toast, adding a luscious depth of flavor that keeps guests coming back for more.

RedEye Diner’s menu also offers comforting dishes beyond breakfast. The Steak & Eggs features a tender New York Strip paired with farm-fresh eggs, providing a hearty start to any day. For lighter or vegetarian options, the Veggie Burger offers a fresh, thoughtfully prepared alternative, reflecting the diner’s attention to diverse palates. If you’re visiting with family or friends, the Chicken Tenders Basket and juicy Bleu Buffalo Chicken Sandwich are crowd-pleasers that satisfy diverse cravings with scrumptious results.

The desserts at RedEye Diner deserve a special mention—they perfectly round out the meal with indulgences like Chef Lee's Banana Pudding, a velvety, nostalgic treat, or a rich slice of Carrot Cake that melts delightfully on your tongue. The brownie and strawberry cheesecake also come highly recommended, adding a sweet finale to any visit.

What truly sets RedEye Diner apart is not just the food but the warmth and attentiveness of the service. Multiple guests have praised the staff for their friendliness and genuine care, with servers like Mike and Andrea receiving accolades for going above and beyond in attending to details and making guests feel right at home. This personable approach creates an inviting environment where customers don’t just eat—they experience a memorable meal with comfort and joy.

The food was nothing special. It may be hard to find. It's in the back of a cool allay with multiple businesses. Highly recommend having the hashbrowns. I had asked for my hashbrowns to be be extra crispy. I also recommend asking for honey butter for the French toast or for the waffles.

This was an amazing dining experience for a late night! Our server was incredibly friendly and had great food recommendations. Everything we tried tasted so good and the prices were very reasonable. I would definitely visit again.

Wow. Just wow. Today I recommended to my friends after a laborious workshop that we go to Red Eye Diner, see, I've been to Red Eye before, and it has always been great, but tonight really blew me away. The service (Mike) was absolutely outstanding. Our server went above and beyond to make sure our table was not only entertained, but beyond satisfied. I wanted a cup of lemons? I got a cup of lemons. I wanted ANOTHER cup of lemons? (Fig 1) I got ANOTHER cup of lemons, and i LOVE lemons. Ive been to so many other diners which had never in the past provided me with as many lemons as i liked. The service was so good that Max and the Charlottes (my band)'s return to Red Eye is guaranteed. That Mike is magical, (fig 2) and deserves a raise, a promotion, or anything, i wouldnt know, im personally unemployed. Expect more positive reviews from Max, i come here whenever I'm in the area. I could go on about the atmosphere, the traditional diner look, the great prices, the rest of the great staff, but tonights spotlight, and every spotlight should be on Mike. Thank you for the service, it made all our days end on an amazing note. Im so happy you were our server because you touched our hearts and made us laugh. I wish the 200$ tip i gave was real

Andrea was our server and all I can say is wow!!! What a very well mannered young man! I got the California burger with fries and my husband got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and fruit we got a strawberry cheesecake for dessert and all I can say is the food was incredible. One of the freshest burgers I’ve had in a very long time the beef you could tell was locally sourced and very fresh the food all around was wonderful the atmosphere was great it was quiet but we came during hours right before dinner rush. This dinner is open 24 hours the staff was kind and the building was clean. What a great experience.

I love the vibe of this restaurant, and the fact that it's open 24 hours. The food is great, too (even though it's a lot of carbs/sugar). We had the chicken & waffles, the shrimp & grits, and a biscuit sandwich. Honestly, I've never fully appreciated chicken & waffles, because it seems to dry for me, but it seemed good as far as chicken & waffles go (the dish seems meant to be dry, so we only get them to experience how a new place does them for comparison). The chicken & grits were great, and will probably be my go-to in the future. The biscuit was light and buttery (definitely not dry like the chicken and waffles). As a side note, they don't take Apple Pay or other tap payment methods. So make sure you have cash or a card before going. Maybe chalk that up to a more authentic (rather than modern) experience in a classic diner. Next time I'm downtown and hungry after midnight, I'm definitely heading back here. Great place overall.

I was out with my girlfriend! I don’t know why but on a Saturday night, half of the bars & clubs were closed in uptown! ?? We got one drink and decided to get some food. Love that this place is open 24/7. For it being really late, the employees were in a great mood. Our waitress, African American woman, she was also a bartender. Soo nice. I should’ve gotten her name for this review. I’d definitely come back. They also have a lot of options on the menu. From wings to omelettes to spaghetti lol.

My friends and I were there for a science conference. Absolutely amazing!! We went three times to Redeye. Andre served us the first day and Darrell served us the other two days. They both had excellent service and great strawberry milkshakes. I love diners and they made the experience one to remember. Thanks so much Andre and Darrell (I hope I’m spelling your name right!) From the redhead girl that wanted the strawberry milkshakes!
